Volunteering for Us
Mission Statement
- There is a gardening working group which meets the 1st Saturday in the month 10am to midday
- We are also trying to develop a panel of people who will assist on an ad hoc basis with expertise in specific field such as legal building advice, HR knowledge, H&S, I.T, marketing, developing other uses/ income streams for the Hall, social media. Currently we have volunteer with safeguarding expertise.
Shirehampton Public Hall Trustees aim to manage and maintain the building for the benefit of all who live in the parish of Shirehampton, working towards maintain and managing the building to ensure it is accessible as a community resource.Shirehampton Public Hall Trustees aim to work with the Shirehampton community to provide opportunities for residents to access education, promote wellbeing and support recreation and leisure
Possible roles
Trustees
We would welcome people considering to become Trustees of this charity. This role is to have an overview of the services provided, ensure the building is safe and well maintained, is financially viable and support the small staff group who undertake the day to day management.
The roles have some legal responsibilities so Trustees must be over 18, but a short, online training course is available. The minimum requirement is to attend monthly 2 hour meetings (read the papers beforehand) but, ideally, if the Trustee has a particular interest or expertise, to be involved in a subgroup or in a practical way.
We would welcome people from different backgrounds, ages and different skill sets
Volunteers
We are looking, in the next year to review the practises and policies, and would welcome assistance from people with expertise in the following areas. This would a time limited focussed piece of work alongside a Trustee to present the Board.
- Health and Safety
- Personnel
- Fundraising
- Equalities
- IT
- Data protection
- Marketing
- Letting and leasing of space
A more ongoing commitment could be offering to:
Help maintain the garden (working group meets the first Saturday in the month 10-12 am)
Undertake small maintenance tasks as part of a small working group (touching up paint replacing handles)
What would you get from helping? Being a part of a group working to achieve a goal that you can see is making a difference can be very rewarding. If you are new to the village, it could be away to make links and get involved. It a may be a way to develop skills that are transferable and can be added to a CV.
